August 2025

Cantina Girlan, Indra Sauvignon Blanc, Alto Adige, 2024

Sauvignon Blanc from Italy's Alto Adige region is grown at 400–500 feet and handpicked. Vinified in stainless steel without malolactic fermentation, it retains crisp acidity and gains texture from aging on its lees. Expect lime, grapefruit, floral aromas, clean citrus flavor, and minerality. It pairs well with white fish, shrimp, asparagus, and salads.  I was so impressed when I tasted this Sauvignon Blanc. Just so round and beautiful, with a great mouth feel!!

Clarendelle (Clarence Dillion-Haut Brion) Rosé, 2024

This is the first official rosé wine in the history of Domaine Clarence Dillon (Haut-Brion, La Mission Haut-Brion, and Quintus) from Bordeaux, France. It was created by Prince Robert de Luxembourg and named in honor of Mr. Clarence Dillon, his great-grandfather, who acquired Château Haut-Brion in 1935. Clarendelle Bordeaux Rosé is produced by a short maceration of Merlot and Cabernet, producing a clear and brilliant pale pink color with salmon hues. There are aromas of raspberries, red currants, and wild strawberries. The wine is smooth, dominated by peach, lychee, citrus, and slight lemony notes. This is a finely balanced, refreshing, and thirst-quenching wine. Drink it as an aperitif.

Bonnie Doon, Le Cigare, Orange, 2024

Fermented at cool temperatures in both rotary and stainless steel closed-top tanks. The average time of skin contact is 14-16 days before pressing into stainless steel. The wine is an interesting blend of 44.5% Grenache Blanc, 25% Pinot Gris, 14% Grenache Gris, 9.5% Orange Muscat, and 7% Chenin Blanc. It uses modern wine-making techniques. On the nose, you’re struck by a prominent note of fresh peaches with a hint of apricot and other fruits like mango and nectarine. On the palate, you see peaches again and a mineral earthiness. It has good length with hints of a slightly bitter kumquat finish. This is a perfect summer wine—perfect by the pool or with a salad!  Randall Graham, the owner, was the first person to start growing Rhone Valley grapes in California back in the early 1970s. I met Randall in the early 1980s. What a character! He started the Rhone movement in California.

Résonance “Founder’s Blocks,” Reserve Pinot Noir, 2021

Grapes for this wine are sourced from the finest blocks in Oregon that were planted by the founders of Résonance Vineyard in Carlton and the adjacent Jolis Monts Vineyard developed by the Maison Louis Jadot team in Yamhill. This wine expresses the history of the land, the inspiration of the founders, and collaborative energy between Oregon and Burgundy. The grapes are organically dry-farmed on some of the oldest soils in the region. The nose is complex, with blackberry, lilac, and black pepper. On the palate, there’s an elegant balance of ripe tannins, black berries, with a vibrant minerality and a long finish. Pair this with salmon, duck, mushrooms, and any dish with earthy flavors like roasted beets or mushroom risotto.

Clarendelle Bordeaux Red, 2023

Clarendelle was inspired by one of the finest French Bordeaux domains, Château Haut-Brion, in honor of Clarance Dillon, who acquired Château Haut-Brion in 1935. It was developed by Prince Robert de Luxembourg, who is the great-grandson of Clance Dillon. The wine conveys balance and elegance rather than jammy concentration. It includes three traditional Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon (76%), Merlot (16%), and Cabernet Franc (8%). The nose reveals aromas of red fruit and spices. The palate provides an intense sensation of ripe blackberry with perfectly soft and harmonious tannins. There are slightly minty aromas of the forest floor with a long finish. Clarendelle pairs well with grilled or roasted meats, as well as rich dishes like beef bourguignon and short ribs. It will reward decanting an hour before serving.
