TERRY’S STANDARD CLUB SELECTION

3 bottles / $65

April 2023

Sparr, Pinot Gris, “Grande Reserve,” 2021 — WHITE

The Sparr winemaking family in Alsace, France, goes back to 1680. Pierre Sparr took over at the age of 20 and was a pioneer in “estate bottling” wines in Alsace. This means the winery grows, produces, PIERRE and bottles their wine, which is 100% Pinot Gris grapes. Pierre’s sons, René and Charles, with the help of the 9th generation, now run the business. This is a mellow, creamy wine with a rich core of complex peach and apricot flavors balanced with citrus notes and a dry finish. It pairs well with roasted chicken, salmon, pork, quiche, and, of course, foie gras terrine!

Forever Young, Rosé, 2022 — ROSÉ

Who wouldn’t want to be Forever Young! Bethany Frankel, founder and CEO of Skinnygirl, is behind this Cotes de Provence rosé. Ms. Frankel says, “This is a more sophisticated wine for a person who really cares and knows the difference.  This is the next level.” The 2022 vintage is 40% Cinsault, 55% Grenache, and 5% Syrah. It’s Terry’s first experience with this rose’ and she thought it was a balanced, elegant wine with a spectacular flavor, with hints of citrus and clementines. Enjoy it on its own as a springtime aperitif or pair it with seafood, shellfish, salads, chicken, veal, and, yes, for Easter, ham.

Argiolas, “Cardanera,” 2021   — RED

Argiolas is the foremost wine estate on the Italian island of Sardinia. Cardanera is 100% Carignano (Carignon) from the appellation Carignano Del Sulcis, DOC. The vineyard is close to the sea, in the south of Sardinia. The soil is sand and clay, with no irrigation. Humidity from the sea keeps the vineyard hydrated. Thanks to its pronounced acidity, high tannins, and meaty notes, Cardanera is an excellent partner for flavorful meat dishes such as spicy lamb meatballs, beef brisket, or roasted pork. It also pairs well with rich poultry dishes like roasted duck or smoked turkey.

TERRY’S PREMIUM CLUB SELECTION

6 bottles / $175 (Includes the 3 from Standard Club)

Hourglass Winery  Sauvignon Blanc, 2021 — WHITE

With two hillside vineyard shaped like an Hourglass, the Hourglass Winery is one of Terry’s top 2 Sauvignon Blancs in all of Napa. The wine is 91% Sauvignon Blanc and 9% Semillon and the 2021 vintage is explosive. The primary aromas are cantaloupe, nectarine, honeysuckle and Meyer lemon. On the palate, there’s crisp Granny Smith apple and kiwi.  The Semillon provides additional depth and weight, harmonizing beautifully with the Sauvignon’s natural mouthwatering acidity. It’s a great aperitif and pairs well with Gouda or Munster cheese. It screams for fish with a lemon, butter sauce and a rich vegetable dish.

Arthur Barolet & Fils, Savigny-Les-Beaune, “Le Village,” 2019  — RED

Over the 15 years that Terry traveled throughout the towns of Burgundy, the vineyards of Savigny Les Beaune became a star. It’s close to Beaune, which is the center of Burgundy. In fact, she almost bought a home overlooking the town of Savigny with the mountain of Pernand Vergeless and Corton Charlemagne in the distance. Arthur Barolet’s family founded this small winery in 1830 and the Pinot Noir vines range in age from 25 to 50 years old. The wine is elegant and rich, perfect with a soft cheese, aged goat cheese, fish, Easter ham, or a rack of lamb..

Chateau Les Trois Croix, Bordeaux, 2016 — RED

This chateau is located in the Fronsac region of Bordeaux, on the right side of the Dordogne River, where many outstanding wines originate. The Chateau is owned by the Leon family. Patrick Leon was the director of the Mouton-Rothschild group for decades, overseeing and helping Mouton and Opus. This wine has a gorgeous and very pure bouquet with black cherry and cassis fruit. The 2016 is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It’s fantastic with steak, short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes, or a rack of lamb with a Port reduction sauce. Great for sipping too!

SUPER PREMIUM CLUB SELECTION

This is an opportunity to purchase a unique wine every month, selected by Terry, that is in limited quantities. Available only to Standard and Premium Club Members while supplies last.

Pym-Rae Napa Valley Tesseron Estate, 2016 — RED

This wine is very special to me in many ways. First, it was the Robin Williams estate in Napa Valley where he had vineyards and had a wine produced. Now, a gentleman that I have known personally for many years, Alfred Tesseron, bought the estate and his first vintage (2016) was released last year. I am fortunate to be able to have the wine here. Monsieur Tesseron has Tesseron Cognac and also owned Ch. Pontet Canet, one of the greatest Bordeaux houses. This wine is all from Mount Veeder, Napa Valley. It’s 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. It’s hand harvested, with the famous Michel Rolland as the winemaking assistant and is organic and biodynamic.

Regular price $450. Wine Club price $399.
